PORTUGUESE SOCIAL ATTITUDES


The portuguese social attitudes programme (PSA), coordinated by Jorge Vala, is a researched programme of the Social Sciences Institute (University of Lisbon). PSA has been carrying out a systematic and consistent research activity since 1996 and has been financially supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

Presently, this research programme encompasses several international projects of comparative and longitudinal research networks, namely:

The main objectives of this research programme are the following:

  • to monitor changing processes on social attitudes and values;
  • to promote the development of methodological issues in transnational and comparative studies, namely regarding sampling procedures, construction and validation of instruments, and the use of validity and reliability tests in survey studies;
  • to promote free access to a wide infra-structure of knowledge and to contribute to an increasing use of the databases available.





The research programme has been receiving important fundings from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Luso American Foundation, and Apifarma, and also from banking institutions, such as Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Banco Comercial Português, besides the financial support of the Institute of Social Sciences and of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
